If you are looking for a cheap (ish) trip away at the weekend, have you considered going to Scotland? There are hundreds of different places you can visit including major cities or a cottage in the country.

If you do enjoy visiting the hustling and bustling cities, then Edinburgh or Glasgow will be your best bet. Glasgow is Scotland’s biggest city and is full with museums, shops and restaurants. Edinburgh is a great place for those of you who like to take a good photo. With its castle and events (including big new year celebrations) that take place on a regular basis, it’s the place to be.

Scotland is easily accessible via car, train or plane and accommodation is easy to find and relatively cheap. Get yourself there!

Do you fancy a quick trip into outer space? Well it would actually be suborbital space, which it technically not outer space itself, but it is the proposed height at which scientists and researchers are planning to fly commercial flights around the globe.

You and the spacecraft would experience microgravity whilst in suborbital space, making it quicker and what should be cheaper, to fly to holiday destinations.

Richard Branson, founder of the mega brand Virgin, has plans underway to conquer this realm and has built what could be the first commercial spacecraft which will take the public in to space on route to their destination.

The first members of the public to fly in the craft called SpaceShip 2 as part of the Virgin Galactic programme will of course have to be pretty darn rich to afford the ticket fare. The first entry level for the cheap seats on SpaceShip 2 start at $200,000 dollars, which is approximately £122,000 English pounds. I hope there is a complimentary in-flight meal thrown in with that!

BMI are beating other airlines to the punch to offer cheaper flights by dropping certain Business Class privileges on their flights.

As we see the return of VAT to 17.5 % and the continual fluctuating price of fuel, air travel can be an expensive experience for those booking flights, either for business purposes or recreational holidays. All this and the fact that we are still feeling the effects of the credit crunch, everyone’s desperate to save money with less disposable income available.

This has forced the hand of the airlines to try and keep passengers interested in flying with them to keep the customers booking with them and more importantly, keeping the airlines cash flow ticking over.

With this in mind, BMI have announced this week that they are to drop the full Business Class service offered on short haul flights and focus on providing more cheap flights. BMI are branding it as their Flexible Economy package, which still offers complimentary food on the plane and also the use of the lounges prior to take off.
