Are you interested in saving the environment? If so, why not sign up for Earth Hour? Earth Hour is taking place on the 27th March at 8.30pm and it’s when billions of people across the world will switch off their lights for an hour. Done through WWF, Earth Hour focuses on climate change. Climate change has to be one of the most serious threats that is facing nature and so global action is essential.

Earth Hour was particularly successful in 2009 with landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, The Empire State Building and the Sydney Opera House all taking part and turning off their lights to show world leaders that something must be done.

Will you be switching off?

The Welsh assembly has been accused of not preventing the damage to wildlife situated in Wales, caused by the Governments actions taken in promoting air travel in the surrounding area.

The complaints have come about as the Assembly authorise and contribute to the subsidised airline flights to Cardiff and Anglesey. This has come about in attempts to increase visitors and support tourism to these areas, but conservationists state that it is to the detriment of the local wildlife, who will feel the effects of the additional noise and air pollution.

As sites like airports and tourist attractions grow, they can also impact negatively on the habitats of wildlife, by upsetting the biodiversity levels which could put some species under pressure and into decline.

Conservationists say that as well as the pollution issues and the fact that the Welsh wildlife habitats are suffering from climate change, the Governments subsidies on flights are just wasting the public money as well as contributing to the demise of local wildlife.

These days we are all supposed to do our bit to help the environment and even though most of us are willing to do this, we are given little incentive or help from the Government to do so. If you live in the UK you will know what I’m talking about.

There may be new schemes with various different colour coded boxes within which to deposit certain kinds of waste, but for some people there is still confusion. For a start, we are supposed to take out all the windows from the envelopes we receive. With the amount of junk mail arriving each week, this is hardly feasible – it would take hours for the average household to complete all these recycling tasks.

With the imminent arrival of the food waste recycling, all I can foresee is more problems until we are assured the councils are actually working with us on this and not just jobsworth types trying to catch us out.

A Which? Survey has recently reported that most consumers generally dump their old electrical items than recycle them because they do not know the best way to dispose of these goods. Electrical items such as radios, cameras, irons, hairdryers and kettles are frequently put out with the general waste.

Less than half of those who responded to the survey actually knew that recycling these small electrical products could really help the environment. Therefore, these items are put out with other refuse.

This just goes to highlight the problems that we all face. It is up to those in power to really advertise the benefits of recycling products. If people knew more about their environment and how they can work together to save it, surveys such as this will tell a different story.

The topic for the Blog Action Day this year is ‘Climate Change’ which just so happens to be one of the major issues we discuss on this particular blog. It is a topic that deserves such discussion at the moment.

Hopefully this annual event will cause many people to consider the way in which we do things and challenge those in power to actually do something about this issue for a change. If we want to live in a clean and healthy environment, we certainly need to sit up and take notice.

This issue of global importance is certainly something to get passionate about, so get blogging and register your blog by clicking Here right away!

A recent report has warned the tourism industry that it should expect many dramatic changes over the next few years due to the ever-changing climate.

Forum for the Future have produced a report entitled Tourism 2023 which has suggested that the list of popular destinations holidaymakers are willing to visit will be affected by climate change.

Over the next 14 years there may be astronomical congestion problems at some of the world’s key transport hubs due to the ever-expanding Asian population and increasing pressures on the world’s key resources.

Demand is expected to exceed supply and long-distance travel may eventually prove to be too costly for the average person. As cleaner technologies make green travel much easier, some of the more energy-consuming ways to travel may become a thing of the past.
